Workshops

Workshop Content

Trinculo’s Attic workshops are 8 hours long and cover the basics of Robotics, Sensors, and Lighting from the perspective of embedded electronics.   No previous electronics experience is required, and no soldering is involved in the workshop.

The Robotics section covers how to make things move.   From making a working, cue-able elevator dial to a radio-controlled ottoman, you’ll learn the in and outs of making props and practicals move.

The Sensors section covers how to make things react to the world around them.   For instance, a light sensor could be used to make a candelabra go out in a blackout, or a tilt sensor could be used to make a practical light up only once it’s in place.

The Lighting section covers various LED and electroluminescent (EL) systems, from a standard LED to a giant 10w LED, as well as how to control and interface to 120v lighting.  We’ll discuss both the technology involved and how to power and control it within a production.

The Trinculo’s Attic Starter Kit and our textbook, Embedded Electronics for Theatre, are both included in the cost of the workshop. If you aren’t able to attend a workshop, but would like to work through the book on your own, the Kit and book are both available for purchase here.
